Hiring Lead Seamstress— Lagos, Nigeria (Lekki)

About the Role

Ọkwalem is looking for a highly skilled seamstress to join our growing fashion brand as our first dedicated production team member in Lagos.

This is an ongoing, home-based role focused on bringing Ọkwalem’s designs from sketches to finished garments, including sample development and ready-to-wear production.

The ideal candidate is an excellent seamstress first and foremost, with strong garment construction skills, attention to detail, reliability, and an interest in growing alongside an emerging fashion brand.

Responsibilities

Sample Development

  • Create garment samples from sketches, measurements, references, and instructions provided by the founder.

  • Develop fitted dresses, lace garments, tops, pants, and other Ọkwalem designs.

  • Make revisions based on the founder's feedback.

  • Maintain high standards of fit, construction, and finishing.

Production

  • Produce ready-to-wear garments upon receipt of orders.

  • Complete garments according to agreed timelines.

  • Maintain consistency between approved samples and production pieces.

  • Communicate promptly about production issues or delays.

Fabric & Material Sourcing

  • Assist with sourcing fabrics, lace, trims, and other materials.

  • Recommend suitable options based on the founder’s specifications.

  • Provide photos, videos, pricing, and availability for approval when needed.

Production Support

  • Help identify practical construction solutions when needed.

  • Keep sewing equipment and workspace properly maintained.

  • Keep track of materials and production needs.

  • Assist with preparation for upcoming collections.

Requirements

Required

  • Proven professional sewing experience.

  • Excellent garment construction skills.

  • Strong experience making women’s clothing.

  • Ability to create well-finished, fitted garments.

  • Strong attention to detail and reliability.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and meet agreed deadlines.

  • Currently living in Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria.

Preferred

  • Experience working with lace and structured garments.

  • Experience making fitted dresses, tops, and pants.

  • Ability to work from sketches and design references.

  • Experience sourcing fabrics and garment materials.

  • Existing sewing equipment and a suitable home workspace.

A sewing machine and serger are preferred but not required. Ọkwalem may provide necessary equipment as the production relationship develops.

Work Arrangement

The role will initially be home-based, with workload varying according to Ọkwalem’s collection development and sales cycle.

The position will be compensated at ₦200,000 per month, with the potential for increased compensation during periods of higher production demand.

As Ọkwalem grows, there may be opportunities to transition into a dedicated production workspace and take on additional responsibilities, including helping train or supervise future production team members.
